The LX-3 has Arrived

Last week, the UPS guy delivered my silver Panasonic Lumix LX-3 [Amazon Link]. He was kind enough to drop it over my metal fence and onto the brick driveway. Fortunately, B&H had the camera box encased in bubble wrap.
Reasons I picked this camera:
- Arguably has the highest quality imaging sensor for a compact digital.
- The excellent and fast Leica lens.
- Fast response times (start-up and shutter lag).
- Excellent manual controls.
- Small size (for a full-featured compact).
For those wondering why I didn’t get the black version, it’s all about supply. What little supply that does exist currently commands a 70+ dollar price premium. Cameras are designed to take pictures. They’re not designed to be stared at like jewelry.
I only had a couple of days to play with the LX-3. During this short span, I would say it lives up to most of the hype. Crisp, clean images and while the controls can’t compare to a DSLR, I would still classify them as very good.
After a long absence from photography, I’m happy to come back with a highly capable camera in hand. I eventually plan on once again acquiring some DSLR components. But for now, I believe this LX-3 will serve me well.
