Mac Pick: Cocktail

With Cocktail, getting access to some of the more obscure features within OS X is as simple as navigating your standard application menu. There’s also a nice collection of options that allow to users to tweak and maintain their systems.
Some individuals have been rather critical of these types of applications. They feel these apps are unnecessary. To a certain degree, I agree with them. From personal experience, I never found much use in manually cleaning out my cache. Leopard does a fine job of handling this task in the background.
But I do like having the ability to access the harder to reach parts of my operating system without being a Unix guru. With version 4.3, Cocktail now has the ability to remove certain types of malicious software.
A single user license is $14.95. Again, it’s not super important like backup software, but I do recommend checking out the free trial. You might just find the added ease of use is worth more than the registration fee.
And If you’re interested in a free alternative, check out OnyX.
