Good LA Ramen

Santouka Ramen

I never had a huge problem with the ramen in Southern California. But people who visit Japan on a regular basis tell me that most places in the US just plain suck. On a rare note, one place has gotten the thumbs up from the ramen snobs.

Santouka Ramen is the name and the one I visited is located in Torrance. From the looks of the surrounding area (it’s located in a supermarket food court) I wasn’t expecting much. However, the end result was some great ramen.

Santouka Shio Ramen

I went with the Shio ramen. With drink and seasoned eggs, the bill came out to a little over ten bucks. Compared to some of the other ramen I’ve tasted, the ramen from Santouka doesn’t have that overly oily/greasy flavor. Also the noodles were more consistent.

Santouka Ramen is located near the corner of Western and Carson. More precisely, it’s in the Mitsuwa food court, near the exit. Give it a try if you want some more authentic ramen.

  1. As a moderate Ramen snob (I’ll eat at almost any place regardless of taste, but I do recognize the better ones), I can attest to greatness of Santouka. Having eaten at one of the Santouka’s in Japan, Yokohama specifically, and although I haven’t eaten at all ramen places in L.A., I do truly believe it is one of the best in the city and is a place every lover of ramen should definitely try out.
