Apple Netbook Later this Year?

From Engadget:
Boom: Apple netbook in Q3 — that’s the rumor being spread by the Commercial Times / DigiTimes tag-team of electronics tattlers. Apparently, Wintek will supply the touch-panels to Quanta computer who’ll be tasked with assembling Apple’s netbook. Take this one with a grain of salt though — while these two Taiwan-based magazines tend to be accurate with insider info related to Taiwan-based companies like Acer and ASUS, they can often be wide of the mark with rumors related to foreign companies. Unless of course we missed the launch of the Blu-ray Xbox 360 and G5 PowerBooks.
We’re only a few months away from the two-year anniversary of the 1st gen iPhone. This is also going to be the time when a lot of iPhone contracts are soon to expire. I have to think that Apple has something waiting in the shadows that will hook consumers into yet another multi-year contract.
But is it going to be a netbook or an updated iPhone?
I think both. An iPhone revamp is inevitable. Glaring weaknesses like the crappy camera need to be addressed. I also think a netbook would fit well with the rest of Apple’s mobile line-up. The Macbook Air is nice but many of us could use something smaller and cheaper that works well with basic web surfing, blogging and email.
I don’t see a 300 dollar Apple netbook materializing anytime soon. Sub 1,000 dollar in my opinion is a much more realistic possibility.
